Our clients had outgrown the century old footprint of the single family cottage and needed room for the family of four to live and play. The existing space had a lot of smaller rooms cordoned off from each other and was in need of a design update. The solution: open up the floor plan, relocate the family room to the rear of the house for privacy and to take advantage of solar heat gain, add a new master suite with a private balcony all clad in charred wood siding.
To help with warmth during Chicago winters, hydronic radiant heat was installed in the family room and basement, and older windows were replaced with low-e 3 glass, wood clad windows. Project progress post here. Project completion post here.
